'The Global Design Village'
Priya Kishore of Bombay Electric, too, encourages good design
irrespective of its nationality. It finds resonance in the UK-based label, Kundalini Arts, and French designer Fanny Boucher; both sell at her store. Drawing inspiration from the magical realism, the art nouveau and deco periods and traditional Indian styles. Kundalini Arts is the brainchild of
British designers Philip Shadbolt and Mandala Bob. It is known for its
luxury scarves. “The Indian market is braver in colours and designs compared to the West. Designing here is a liberating experience.”
Priya says she chose these designers for their beautiful and irresistible
things. “Design shouldn’t be self-consciously Indian, rather innately and effortlessly so. How should we define what’s Indian — through geography
or history?” she asks, standing up for aesthetic over regionalism.
